Valley Springs Holiday Cottages, Devon - How To Find Us
Valley Springs’ address is Sherford, but we are not located in the village, about a mile north – the nearest hamlet is Harleston (disregard any sign reading ‘Farms only’).
Our directions are for those travelling southbound from the M5. If travelling from a different route, do contact us for alternative directions. From the A303, follow our directions from the A38 Devon Expressway. (If approaching from Kingsbridge or Torcross, pick up our alternative route: follow Valley Springs Fishery brown tourist signs from Frogmore (cottages & fishery are the same destination).
M5
Proceed along the M5 southbound, which at Exeter – becomes the A38 – the Devon Expressway. If in doubt, follow signs to Plymouth.
A38
Shortly after you’ve left the M5, the road splits into two – keep over to the right & take the right fork, the A38 to Plymouth (you don’t want the A30).
Continue on the A38, passing exits for Torquay and Kingsteignton amongst others. Soon after an Ashburton exit, take the exit marked Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Totnes (there is a large brown general tourist sign at this point), the A384. You are now approximately 23 miles (30/40 minutes) from Valley Springs.
A384
Follow this road, through Dartington (at the mini roundabout, take the first exit on the left) to Totnes. Do not go into Totnes, unless stopping off for Safeway’s supermarket and/or petrol station).
A381
At Totnes, turn right at 1st set of traffic lights (police station on your right, railway station ahead on left) to pick up the A381 to Kingsbridge.
Follow this winding road through various small villages, including Harbertonford (BP petrol station) and Halwell (BP petrol station, last before Valley Springs).
Just after Halwell, continue straight on past the BP petrol station (on brow of the hill – do not turn left here), in the direction of Kingsbridge. Here, immediately on your left, is the first brown tourist sign to Valley Springs Fishery.
Continue on, past a small sign on your left marked ‘Stanborough Hundreds Hotel’ (the sign is immediately after a bend in the road).
Very shortly after this – and with not much warning – there is a slip road to the left, signposted to Slapton, with a brown tourist sign indicating Valley Springs Fishery 5 miles. Turn left here. (If you continue straight on, you will arrive in Kingsbridge).
Country lanes
Note: all white signposts (or fingerposts) here are marked with their own unique name on the upright of the post - very useful for navigational purposes! They often carry the description ‘cross’ to indicate a junction.
You are now in the famous Devon hedged country lanes, often single track, so remember the passing points.
Keep following this lane for some 5/6 miles, without turning off (but do not go as far as Slapton). At a white signpost, known as Wallaton Cross, is the next Valley Springs Fishery sign; turn right here. Continue following this lane and then take a sharp left (look out for a blue and white cycle route sign, which points left here too; there is no Valley Springs sign at this point) immediately prior to the next junction (ie a 4 way junction, with white signpost named Coles Cross). Keep following this lane, as it bears round to the right, passing another junction/white signpost (keep going straight on). At this point the lanes may appear as if going to the middle of nowhere – but you will shortly arrive at Valley Springs, Pinheys Cross (another white signpost, placed high up in the bank, on the corner of the junction, to your left), where you turn left. Follow the lane, round two bends, and you will come to our entrance sign on your left.
Valley Springs
Drive down the tarmac driveway, passing Newhouse Farm on your left (not part of Valley Springs), and enter into our courtyard overlooking the pond & dovecote.
Badger, Kingfisher and Dovecote are found to your right, Fingerling Barn immediately to your left. Brown Trout Cottage is located at the end of Fingerling Barn. It has its own rear driveway/entrance accessed by keeping directly left (following the stone wall), driving behind Fingerling Barn.
Kindly park your car/s directly outside your cottage.
We hope you have a good journey and look forward to welcoming you. If you are unexpectedly delayed, and are able to call us, please let us know of your revised arrival time. Thank you.
